Michael Gizzi
Vice President, Audit

Michael Gizzi is the Vice President of Audit. Michael and his team of experienced unclaimed property auditors are responsible for the timely completion of multi-state unclaimed property examinations of large public and private companies. As part of this responsibility, Michael oversees the development and implementation of audit work plans that are used in conjunction with the compliance audit program in order to identify, quantify and document areas of non compliance. He also interfaces with holders and their advocates on a regular basis during the various phases of unclaimed property audits. Michael rejoined the Clearinghouse in 2008 after a two and a half year absence during which time he was a manager in Deloitte & Touche LLP’s Regulatory & Capital Markets Consulting practice specializing in unclaimed property consulting.

In addition to managing projects for Deloitte & Touche LLP’s Regulatory & Capital Markets Consulting practice, Michael also served as a senior consultant where he performed unclaimed property risk assessments, assisted clients with voluntary compliance initiatives and state audit defense engagements. In this role, Michael reviewed his clients’ books and records and proposed and performed various procedures and testing methodologies designed to quantify the clients’ unclaimed property exposure.

Michael previously worked at the Clearinghouse from 2004-2006 as an auditor. During this period, he led compliance audits of sizeable companies to determine compliance with state unclaimed property laws. He also reviewed companies’ financial records, unclaimed property reporting histories, documented audit findings and prepared audit reports for client states.

Prior to joining the Clearinghouse, Michael worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Office of the State Auditor in such roles as audit supervisor and field auditor.

Michael holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Merrimack College.
